| Vince HermanVocals, Acoustic Guitar: Vince was born to play music. By the age of three, his brothers saw the need and made him a plywood guitar with rubber bands for strings. Vince’s first gig was at the age of four when he played at the halftime of his mother’s card club. Soon, he was playing at schools, churches, baseball games and porches throughout the Carnegie, Pennsylvania area. His first paying gig with a country band by the name of Eddy and The Night Riders. While attending college at West Virginia University from 1980-85, Vince played with such bands as Free Beer, the Underwear Band, Smokestack Lightning, Captain Jelly & the Nuff and others.
During this time he also performed solo as part of a labor history educational program, and became a regular at the Augustana Heritage and Arts Fest, where he played with legends such as Dewey Balfa, Howard Armstrong, and Jethro Burns. The itch to travel brought Vince to Colorado in 1985, where he found a booming bluegrass scene and an endless round of picking partners. Soon he joined up with the Left Hand String Band and eventually started his own band The Salmonheads. The two bands combined in 1990 and became what is known today as Leftover Salmon. Vince consumes every local newspaper he can get and is a compulsive political observer. Please share some thoughts with him as he loves to discuss the three things you’re not supposed to talk about: religion, politics, and money! | |
